The 2026–27 Season of World-Class Dance presented by the New Orleans Ballet Association promises a vibrant and diverse lineup of internationally acclaimed dance companies and innovative performances, all staged at the Mahalia Jackson Theater in New Orleans. This season reflects NOBA’s continued commitment to bringing exceptional artistry and cultural richness to local audiences.
The season opens on October 17 with a celebrated return of the Pilobolus. A New Orleans audience favorite, Pilobolus returns with its signature blend of athleticism, illusion, and inventive storytelling. Known for its collaborative creative process, the company transforms the human body into unexpected shapes and striking visual images, creating works that are both playful and profound. Seamlessly merging dance, theater, and shadow, Pilobolus offers an engaging experience that is as entertaining as it is imaginative, captivating viewers of all ages and celebrating the limitless possibilities of movement.
On November 14, NOBA hosts Alonzo King LINES Ballet, making its first New Orleans appearance in 15 years. Known for its distinctive sculptural beauty and technical precision, King’s choreography pushes the classical form to its furthest limits. The company bridges tradition and innovation, brought to life by extraordinary dancers who create an electric dialogue between movement and music. Every gesture is rooted in impeccable classical line, resulting in a performance that is both visually compelling and wholly original.
Back on the calendar and more anticipated than ever, Argentina’s Tango After Dark takes the stage on February 20. Led by World Champion Germán Cornejo, Tango After Dark debuts an electrifying production that captures the authentic fire of Buenos Aires. Featuring ten exceptional dancers and an ensemble of renowned musicians, the program brings the compositions of Astor Piazzolla to life. Blending traditional roots with contemporary flair, breathtaking speed, and elegant theatricality, the work immerses audiences in an evening of musicality, intensity, and virtuosity.
The season continues March 13-14 with Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater. Under the visionary leadership of Artistic Director Alicia Graf Mack, Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater returns to New Orleans in a special engagement. Celebrating nearly seven decades as a global cultural ambassador, this powerhouse brings the African American experience to life with unparalleled vitality. Audiences will experience two distinct programs, with Program B featuring the soul-stirring masterpiece Revelations. From technical brilliance to profound emotional depth, the company delivers a transformative experience central to the American cultural landscape.
Houston Ballet closes our season on April 17 with a stunning performance of Stanton Welch’s Madame Butterfly. Set to Puccini’s iconic score, this production is a stunning achievement in ballet and remains an international success, with performances across three continents. A poignant tale of love and sacrifice, it follows Cio-Cio-San, a young geisha who gives up faith and family to marry an American naval lieutenant. Exquisite choreography and picturesque sets by Peter Farmer evoke 19th-century Japan, drawing viewers into an emotionally charged journey. Under the leadership of Artistic Directors Julie Kent and Stanton Welch AM, Houston Ballet is considered “one of America’s best ballet companies” (The New York Times).
