“Hubbard Street Dance Chicago ought to bottle itself as a cure for the ills of the era.”
– The New York Times
Hubbard Street Dance Chicago
SAT, MAR 21 | 7:30PM
Audience favorite Hubbard Street Dance Chicago (HSDC) returns to New Orleans with a thrilling program of bold artistry, iconic choreography, and emotional power.
. At the center of the evening are rare works by Broadway legend Bob Fosse, performed by the only dance company authorized to present his choreography. Featuring Sweet Gwen Suite and Percussion IV, the program honors Fosse’s enduring partnership with Gwen Verdon and the unmistakable style that continues to shape popular culture, including the iconic choreography for Beyoncé’s “Single Ladies.”
Founded in 1977, HSDC has grown from a local ensemble into a globally recognized force in contemporary dance, known for its virtuosic dancers and daring repertory. Under the direction of Artistic Director Linda-Denise Fisher-Harrell, the company continues to evolve with work that is dynamic, expressive, and deeply human.
The evening also highlights contemporary voices shaping dance today, including a work by Matthew Rushing of Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater that blends contemporary movement with Afro-Cuban influences. Completing the program is a contemporary balletic masterpiece by Spain’s globally celebrated Nacho Duato, widely regarded as one of the greatest choreographers of his generation, alongside Baryshnikov protégé Aszure Barton’s A Duo, described by Stage and Cinema as “a dynamite piece.”
Praised by The New York Times as “a cure for the ills of the era,” Hubbard Street delivers “an ebullient and masterful performance by a company in top form” (Third Coast Review).

ABOUT HUBBARD STREET DANCE CHICAGO
Rooted in Chicago and recognized around the world, Hubbard Street Dance Chicago has been one of the most dynamic and original forces in contemporary dance for over 45 years. What began in 1977 as a small ensemble performing in senior centers has evolved into a globally celebrated company known for bold artistry, emotional resonance, and a relentlessly evolving repertory.
Founded by Lou Conte and built with the support of visionary leaders like Barbara G. Cohen, Gail Kalver, and Jim Vincent, Hubbard Street has long been a home for some of the most influential choreographic voices of our time—including Jiří Kylián, Nacho Duato, Ohad Naharin, and Twyla Tharp. The company is equally committed to developing new talent, providing dancers with a creative platform through residencies, workshops, and collaborations.
Today, under the artistic direction of Linda-Denise Fisher-Harrell, a former Hubbard Street dancer herself, the company continues to reimagine what contemporary dance can be—diverse, inclusive, and deeply human. With performances across 19 countries and 44 U.S. states, and innovative education programs serving Chicago’s youth, Hubbard Street’s mission to awaken the human spirit through dance is as alive and vital as ever.
This is dance that dares, inspires, and connects—at home and far beyond.
