Traveling East on I-10 (from Armstrong International Airport)
- Take I-10 E
- Exit #235A/ORLEANS AVE/VIEUX CARRÉ onto ORLEANS AVENUE – (ORLEANS AVENUE will become BASIN STREET)
- Continue on BASIN STREET AND TURN LEFT AT THE GATE (ESSENCE WAY)
- CONTINUE ON ESSENCE WAY UNTIL YOU REACH THE THEATER
Traveling West on I-10 (from Slidell)
- Take I-10 W
- Exit #235A/ORLEANS AVE/VIEUX CARRÉ
- Turn left on ORLEANS AVE (ORLEANS AVENUE will become BASIN STREET)
- Continue on BASIN STREET AND TURN LEFT AT THE GATE (ESSENCE WAY)
- CONTINUE ON ESSENCE WAY UNTIL YOU REACH THE THEATER
Parking
- On-site parking is available for patrons on a first come, first serve basis. Parking is $20 cash only per vehicle. Limited ADA parking is available on a first come, first serve basis. Please notify the parking attendant of the need for ADA parking.
Pick Up & Drop Off Location
- Anyone coming to the Mahalia Jackson Theater via cab, Uber, or Lyft is encouraged to be picked up and dropped off on Rampart Street outside of Armstrong Park.
ARRIVING BY BUS:
The closest bus stops are Basin at Essence Way, Basin at N. Villere, and N. Rampart at St. Ann.
SECURITY/BAG CHECK POLICY
In order to create a safe, enjoyable experience for all our guests, the Ambassador Theatre Group has implemented the following security policies:
All Guests Are Subject to Search
Anyone entering the Mahalia Jackson Theater is subject to a reasonable search including but not limited to bag search, wands and pat-downs. The Mahalia Jackson Theater also reserves the right to inspect personal belongings of a suspicious nature. This includes, but is not limited to bags, purses, coats and hats. Any bags larger than 13 5/8” by 15 ¼” are not permitted.
In the event that prohibited items are revealed during a search, the guest will be permitted to return to their vehicle with the item or the item will be confiscated or disposed of properly. The staff will not safeguard any personal belongings or items of any type.
The following items are prohibited in the theater:
- Bags larger than 13 5/8” by 15 ¼”
- Backpacks
- Knives
- Firearms (permitted or not) or weapons of any kind
- Video or audio recorders, I-pads, tablets or lap-computers
- Professional quality camera equipment
- Selfie sticks/poles
- Glass, plastic or metal containers
- Coolers
- Food, except for certain medical conditions
- Illegal drugs or substances
- Strollers or baby seats
- Folding chairs
- Laser pointers
- Fireworks
- Noise makers or horns
- Balloons and streamers
- Signs, posters, banners or flags
- Parcels, packages or any items the contents of which are not displayed
- Gifts of any kind for the entertainer(s)
The Mahalia Jackson Theater reserves the right to restrict any other items that could pose a safety hazard or restrict the enjoyment of another guest.
